Stop the CFPA: Beating Big Government

An integrated, nationwide effort launched during the heated debate over the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Stop the CFPA was voted Best Public Affairs Campaign by a panel of journalists, consultants, political operatives and other advocacy experts at the 2011 Reed Awards. The victory is made all the more impressive considering that the campaign took place in a year that saw more than $500 million in spending from over 600 different advocacy groups, political action committees and 527s. Stop the CFPA was successful on a number of levels and commanded the attention of both opinion elites and the general public. The campaign included national TV, online and print ads that President Obama, himself, rebutted specifically during the debate over the creation of a new, standalone $400 million government agency as part of the Dodd-Frank bill.
